About

San Juan Sufficiency

This blog is a story. It is a story about a boy and his desire to live in the San Juan Islands. Like most real-life stories, it’s full of bunny trails and false starts. But it is hoped that the life lessons gained on his road to happiness will encourage others to follow their bliss.

My name is Chris Troutner, and this is my blog. Occasionally, I invite friends to contribute articles, like Ken and Sherrie Schmidt.

I am driven to live on a boat in the San Juan Islands. It is my goal to pursue a lifestyle that allows me to live in the islands, on my boat, for four to six months each year. I’ve always loved living in nature, but I’m one of the first millennials. I love my technology too. I’m attempting to meld technology, nature, and frugality together in such a way that I maximize my leisure time and minimize my time at a ‘job’. I’m trying to live a life of true wealth that minimizes the influence of money in my life. This blog documents the successes and failures of my ‘life experiment’. It is my hope that the lessons I learn can help others to live an environmentally friendly, alternative lifestyle, like I am doing.

If you’d like to know more about how I got started on this path and what I’ve accomplished, check out Part 1 and Part 2 of my story.

Thanks Sherrie! I’m glad you like this first start. Get better soon so that we can brainstorm on ideas for the site! I can’t wait to get you up and blogging!

Hi Chris and friends – found you via Jacob of ExtremeEarlyRetirement , inspiring indeed! wonder why you chose a boat instead of having a piece of land somewhere ? We have aspirations to move to a farm in the near future as well!
